ROBERT STERN

STERN--Robert A.M. With deep sadness, the Board of Directors of The Chatham mourns the passing of Robert A. M. Stern, our neighbor, our building's original architect, and one of the most influential voices in American architecture. Mr. Stern began his collaboration with Related in the late 1990s, designing The Chatham, which opened in 2000 as the first of many landmark projects he would complete with the company. His work helped shape Related's residential portfolio for decades, blending classical inspiration with modern urban living. For our community, his legacy is deeply personal. He not only designed The Chatham, he chose to live in it, becoming a gracious neighbor whose presence reminded us that great architecture begins with the people who call it home. In September 2025, during our 25th anniversary celebration, we were honored to recognize Mr. Stern for the vision and humanity that defined our building from its earliest days. That tribute remains a lasting expression of our gratitude. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, especially his son Nicholas, and to his colleagues and friends at RAMSA.
