RONALD LEHRMAN Obituary

LEHRMAN--Ronald J. Ronald J. Lehrman, died of natural causes at age 89 on February 9, 2022. He grew up in Plainfield, NJ and Miami Beach where he was a high school basketball star who once played with the Cuban National Basketball team. In 1969, he co-founded with Peter Weiss, Heinz Dawid and Alvin Fross, the law firm now known as Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu where he enjoyed a storied legal career in international trademark and copyright law. His intellectual and moral elegance, good sense and endless decency made him a leader in his field. Yet his true gift was creating a collegial firm culture and drawing out the talents of the many young attorneys he mentored and whose careers he championed. His reach was truly global as he formed close and lasting friendships with lawyers and colleagues on every continent who also shared his passion for great meals and fine wines. Ron is recognized as one of the leading international trademark lawyers of his time. Ron graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School. He was a frequent speaker around the world on international trademark protection. He was truly generous, very gregarious and always welcoming. He loved to entertain and host events whether they be work events or dinner parties at home. Ron is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Barbara Lehrman, stepchild Lauren Simkin Berke, nephew David Lehrman and his wife Kathryn, their children Jake and Sam, nephew Zach Hart, the son of his niece Stacy Hart who predeceased him, and Sue Morris, a very special woman for whom Ron had great affection. Ron's first wife, Pat Dunn Lehrman, and his second wife, Carol Simkin, both predeceased him. Ron retained a youthful sense of humor and was an engaging storyteller. Even though we will miss him greatly, Ron enjoyed a long life filled with great loves, enduring friendships, supportive family, fabulous food and endless amusement. We should all be so lucky. A celebration in Ron's memory is being planned and announcements will be forthcoming.
