RONALD MORRIS

MORRIS--Ronald A., passed away on November 19 at his home in Manhattan, at the age of 88 of prostate cancer. He was married to Elaine Hoffman Morris for 63 years, father to David M. and Dr. Michael J. Morris, father-in-law to Elisheva Urbas and Willa Padgett, and grandfather to Avital, Ronit, Yemima, Dylan, and Jacob Morris. He was loved and will be missed by all of them. He was a son of the late Blanche and Philip B. Morris and brother to the late Dr. Joel J. Morris. A noted tax lawyer, he was a partner of and of counsel to Roberts & Holland for nearly 60 years. He taught tax law at Columbia Law School, wrote and edited many articles and essays, and was active in the working committees of the national, state, and city tax bar associations. He was a stickler for correct grammar and punctuation, and a mentor and friend to his students and colleagues. A lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout, and member of the Order of the Arrow, he enjoyed annual reunions of the Brooklyn Arrowhead Division at Camp Ten Mile River, as well as their bird watching weekends. He was an avid birdwatcher, loved attending the theater and meeting his friends for discussions and debates, and was a great proponent of the Socratic method. He was active in many community organizations and was treasurer of, among others, Congregation Ansche Chesed, the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan, the Mohegan Park Jewish Center, and the Association of Lake Mohegan Park. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 22 at 10am, at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel at 630 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY. Because of covid, everyone attending in person must be fully vaccinated and masked; livestream viewing will be available at on the Plaza website. Contributions may be made in Ronnie's memory to Congregation Ansche Chesed, the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan, or for Prostate Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
