RONALD STANTON Obituary

STANTON--Ronald P.,

88, died at home on September 26, 2016. Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, and arriving in the US at the age of nine, he had a long and successful career as a commodity trader. In 1965, he founded the company Transammonia, Inc. (now called Trammo, Inc.) which in recent years has been the largest privately held company in the New York area. He was a graduate of the College of the City of New York and lived in Manhattan with a residence in North Salem, New York. He was a strong believer in Tzedakah and became a major supporter of numerous charities. His interests were health care, Jewish life and education, and the arts. He served on the Boards of New York Presbyterian Hospital, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and Yeshiva University. He supported the Brooklyn Academy of Music and produced a Baroque Opera there. He was instrumental in construction of new buildings at the Abraham Joshua Heschel School and the Windward School. His life revolved around the Congregation Shearith Israel, which he attended with his revered and beloved Mother Hedi from their first days in this country. He became a board member and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee of the Synagogue and a major donor. He loved sports, especially horseback riding and tennis. He was the proud father of Oliver, Hedi and Philip and grandfather of Alexandra, Bradley and Spencer. The Stanton family has asked that in lieu of flowers, gifts in Ronald's memory be made to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in support of the Ronald P. Stanton Clinical Cancer Program. Please make checks payable to New York-Presbyterian Fund, Inc. and send them to: New York-Presbyterian, Office of Development, 850 Third Avenue, 12th floor, New York, NY 10022, Attention: Director of Operations. The Funeral will be held at the Congregation Shearith Israel (Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue), 2 West 70th Street, New York City on Wednesday, September 28 at 11:00am.
