Rosa Schupbach Obituary

1928 - 2022
Rosa Lechner Schupbach, age 93, died peacefully in her New York City home on January 11, 2022 after an illness of several months. Rosa lived a rich and adventurous life on two continents-her adopted home of NYC and her native Switzerland. Born in Zurich on June 19, 1928, Rosa came to New York City in 1959 as a young, fiercely independent woman. She earned several degrees in economics from Columbia University. Rosa married Edmund Schupbach, who predeceased her in 1973. She retired from the National Bureau of Economic Research in 1990, was involved in preservation issues, a longtime member of Madison Ave Presbyterian Church, and joined the NYPD as an auxiliary police officer in 1980, serving for more than 40 years. She served for many years as Vice-President of the Swiss American Historical Society. Rosa is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews in Europe and many friends around the globe. Rosa's family thanks her caregivers, her church family, and her colleagues and friends at the NYPD for their care and support of Rosa in her final weeks.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on May 14th, at Madison Ave Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church's Open Table ministry: Madison Ave Presbyterian Church, 921 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10021; or to the Central Park Conservancy, www.centralparknyc.org.

I would like to join the Memorial Service as representative of the Swiss Police Association. As President of the Section of Zürich, where she is an honorary member, I had the privilege of meeting Rosa personally a couple of times.
If that is possible, pls send me contact information of the Host or any possible representative of the NYPD. My Email is [email protected]

Sincerely
Joschua Antwi

My husband Randy and I had the privilege of meeting Rosa at 'our' table in the grand dining room of the Queen Mary II. She was fascinatingly interesting to us because of her age, her travels and her warm personality. One evening the three of us spent time in an elegant lounge drinking wine and enjoying the music of a gifted pianist. We kept in touch for awhile by mail. We loved Rosa.
