RUTH UNGER Obituary

UNGER--Ruth Helen,

89, of New York City, died November 10. 2015. Ruth, daughter of Phillip and Becky Dunn, loving wife of Edwin Unger, passed away peacefully on November 10th in her Manhattan home, surrounded by her family, following a long battle with COPD. She is survived by her three sons, Richard, Lawrence and David, their wives Alana, Patti and Lorraine, and five grand-children: Evan, Sarah, Ryan, Samantha and Andrina. She also had the joy of meeting and holding her great-grandson, Max Asher, only a few days before her death. Ruth Unger proudly led the National Mah Jongg League, a charitable membership organization, as president until her passing. She was involved in all aspects of the league's activities for more than 50 years. Under her leadership, it grew to become an expanding community of enthusiastic players across the country as well as a philanthropy devoted to improving the health and advancement of women. She will be sorely missed by her loyal staff and friends.

Dear David, Richard and Larry, Janet and I spoke of your mom often. Whenever we had may jongg games at shul I was reminded of her and in a way felt connected to royalty. Amazing that she continued to work for so many years. She contributed so much. Our thoughts are with you. Sylvia Gottlieb
