Sheldon Jacobs Obituary
Sheldon Jacobs was born in Milwaukee and grew up in Deadwood,S.D. He graduated from Nebraska University with a BS in business. He entered the Army as an MP lieutenant during the Korean War. After the war, he got his Masters from NYU.
He spent a year in research at ABC TV and later worked at NBC as a Director analyzing viewership stats. In 1974, he was on the Today Show to discuss his book "Put Money in Your Pocket", the first self-help book on no-load mutual funds. The book helped foster the huge growth in no-load funds. He founded an investment newsletter titled "The No-Load Fund Investor" which he published for 25 years with 30,000 subscribers. It became the #1 financial newsletter in America for risk-adjusted performance for 15 years. He also co-founded the BJ Group which was a Registered investment advisor that managed the money of over 1000 clients
In July of 1993, Mr. Jacobs was one of 5 nationally recognized mutual fund advisors chosen by the NY Times for a Fund portfolio competition. His choices produced the highest return of all contestants for 7 years.
Mr. Jacobs worked right up to the time of his death at 84 and lived in New York and Arizona.
Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife Bette Jacobs, his brother Doran Jacobs and wife Arlene, his children Roy Jacobs and wife Gloria, daughter Julie Dupree and husband Matt and 9 grandchildren.
Services will be held on Sunday, March 29 at the Edwards Dowdle Funeral home at 64 Ashford Ave. Dobbs Ferry NY. A Viewing at 5:00 p.m. and Service at 6:00 p.m. followed by a "Celebration of Life" event at Double Tree Hotel in Tarrytown located at 455 S. Broadway at 7:30 p.m.

Bette . . . despite THE NO-LOAD FUND INVESTOR's new stewardship AND new publications staff, those of us who are subscribers for MANY decades -- and who were BLESSED to have met and known Sheldon -- will forever "link" and associate the NLFI with Sheldon. Indeed, Sheldon "mentored" many of us and will ALWAYS think of him each and every time we receive the LATEST issue . . . .

Barry SHARED Sheldon's monthly NLFI newsletters and yearly NLFI handbooks with me, as I'm Barry's "life-partner." In the mid-1990's Barry introduced me to Sheldon at an investor's conference/convention. We BOTH hope that he rests in eternal peace . . . .

Our thoughts are with you.
Lee was a friend of Sheldons since the 1960's
When they both worked together at NBC.
When we moved to Hastings they became good friends.
We just got an email from him last week.
We haven't seen you and Sheldon in the last couple of years. Because we don't live in the same cities. We miss you both
