STANLEY RUBENFELD Obituary

RUBENFELD--Stanley Irwin.

December 7, 1930 to September 3, 2016. Stanley Rubenfeld died peacefully in his sleep in Aventura, Florida after a long illness, at the age of 85. Stanley was predeceased by his parents, George and Mildred Rubenfeld, and his sister Sheila Pakula. He is survived by his children Leslie Dealy, Lise Oelbaum and Kenneth Rubenfeld, his wife Madeleine Conway, and her children Andrew Conway, Victoria Newman, and Allie Marks and their families, his grandchildren Michael, Ashley and Matthew Oelbaum, James and Jennifer Dealy, his great grandchild, Benjamin, sons-in law Andrew Oelbaum, and Kevin Dealy, and nephews Andy and Davie Rubien. Stanley graduated Columbia College and Columbia University School of Law where he was editor-in-chief of the Law Review. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during the Korean War and then joined Shearman and Sterling in New York City. Stan was a senior partner at Shearman and Sterling and spent his entire career at the firm where he rose to prominence as the head of the tax department and one of the leading tax attorneys in the country. Stan was an avid tennis player, and member of La Gorce Country Club in Miami Beach. Stan shared Madeleine's devotion to the building of the new Perez Miami Art Museum, and her love of travel. He served on a number of Boards including Residence for A More Beautiful Port Washington and Community Chest, Chatham at Aqua and the Laurie Strauss Leukemia Foundation. Throughout his life he was a wonderful friend and mentor to all. Funeral will take place on Wednesday at 11am at Mount Hebron Cemetery 130-04 Horace Harding Expressway, Flushing, NY 11367, (718) 939-9405. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Stan's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeast Florida Chapter, P.O. Box 22594 West Palm Beach, FL, 33416 or the Alzheimer's Association of Long Island, 425 Broadhollow Road, Suite 307, Melville, NY 11747.
