There are certain wake-up call in life-and finding out about the passing of Steve Finklestein was one of them for me. I can't tell you the endless nights Steve and I spent together during the roaring 80s and 90s at the height of the carpet business with endless nights together having dinner and walking the streets of 1st Avenue in Manhattan after leaving 919 3rd Avenue, "The Carpet Center as they called back then. ~ Stephen was such a class act, those perfectly pressed suits,-magnificently tailored shirts with a thin gold bracelet around his left wrist. I always described Steve as a better looking version of Richard Gere in his prime. And me, not quite as tailored looking with my suits from Syms, but reading my poetry and doing my song and dance acts, while people were attracted to being near Steve because of his magnetic looks and his quiet, but powerful, spiritual depth.
Yes, the hair turned silver gray from the magnificent black it once was, but still the grace and the charm of that incredible man, both physically and spiritually remained intact. So much fun-so many wild times-but it was always the goodness of Steve-our bonding together about business and pleasures that was always the Crown Jewel of our relationship. No, this is not a sad story about sympathy-it's a magnificent story about LIFE! ~ The rides in his Lincoln Continental and his beloved Cadillac with the sunroof wide open even in the cold weather- going down 1st Avenue while MEATLOAF was blasting,-the poetry I wrote,- one about Steve and his life-one of my favorites-and how he was moved by it and it is also a testament to the glory of friendship through many changing years. Yes, life takes many strange twists and turns, and at much too young an age, life was taken away from Steve. But the memories will never be taken away-the magnificent times, the GRAND times, I can't even remember a bad time between us throughout all of those years. Yes, friendship without hidden agendas is the TRUE GLORY of life. ~ Hail and farewell to the strange dimension to where we will all go one day on our journey towards the stars and thanks so much Steve for the beautiful ride of your friendship, loyalty, and being just who you are. I am grateful to have known you and I have been blessed by calling you MY FRIEND.

Aline, I am so sorry to hear about Steve. I feel like I grew up with both of you- we have a long history- he was bright, kind, a great father- a great sense of humor-though never nasty, and a mentor to our industry. Thinking about all of you. Geryl Kramer
