STEPHEN HOUCK Obituary

HOUCK--Stephen. Stephen David Houck passed away on April 12 with his family by his side. He was 73. His death follows a bone marrow transplant in a valiant and hard-fought battle against leukemia. Steve was both a recognized expert on antitrust law and a seasoned commercial litigator. A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School, he was a partner in Donovan Leisure Newton and Irvine and later associated with other prominent New York law firms. Steve also served as Chief of the Antitrust Bureau in the New York State Attorney General's Office, and he was the Executive Director of the State Center, whose mission is to enhance state enforcement of antitrust and consumer protection laws, from its inception in 2005 to 2020. Steve is a Past Chair of the New York State Bar Association's Antitrust Law Section and served on its Executive Committee. He was a longtime member of the Board of Princeton Internships in Civic Service (PICS), an alumni founded program that provides Princeton undergraduates paid internships with nonprofits. Most importantly, Steve was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Steve is survived by his wife Toni Lichstein, daughters Rebecca Houck (Nicholas Cohen) and Abigail Houck (Will Jaffe), grandchildren Caroline, Lucy and Noah, and his brother Rick Houck. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Donations in Steve's honor can be made to PICS. Please visit: pics.princeton.edu/for-alumni for instructions on how to make a gift.

Dear COUSINS,
I am just now seeing Steve's obituary. I am so sad, and so sad for you. I had no idea Steve had health issues. Steve and I met in 1969, when he was at HARVARD LAW and I was a 9th grader visiting CAMBRIDGE. Over the years, we exchanged certain family genealogical information. I always thought of STEVE kindly, as kind of a learned older brother (older cousin) figure (that I rarely saw, but who was reliably solid and there). I will miss Steve.
I send you my condolences and love.
Very truly,
JOEL KNOBLAUCH

Toni and all -

I just learned of Steve´s passing. I am very sorry for all of you.

Being Steve´s friend and roommate at Princeton made me a better person. We were alike in many important ways - our dreams, our high school experiences, our abilities.

Except he was a Jewish guy from Pennsylvania, and I was a Protestant guy from Ohio. He - by who he was by birth and by his attitudes - helped me become a more open-minded person.

Though we drifted apart, I shall miss his presence in our world.
