STEPHEN WEINER Obituary

WEINER--Stephen L., 72, of Quogue, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 18, 2019. Steve was a 1967 graduate of Columbia College and a 1970 graduate of Columbia Law School. He was our dear, dear friend for more than 50 years. He had the biggest heart of anyone we knew. Steve was always there for people in need. His instinct was always to think of others first. He was ridiculously generous, with his time, his advice and his resources. He was a great counselor and a wonderful compatriot. He had a wry sense of humor, a twinkle in his eye and wonderful hair! Steve, we will miss you terribly. Rest in peace. Bud Shulman and Amy Newman.

Hey, Steve, I had been missing you and wondering where you had wound up. I tried to get something out of Seth Weinstein, but he too had no idea. I found you a year too late. May your memory be a blessing, and all your paths ways of eternal peace.

To the family, you have my sincere condolences. When someone falls asleep in death (Ecclesiastes 9: 5,10) the memories we have of them become our most precious treasure. May those memories comfort you as well as Gods promise at John 6:40.

My deepest sympathy

Very sorry to hear of Steve's passing (and way too early). Wonderful memories of the VW camper trip Steve, Bob Curry and I took to South America post-law school until Steve's continuation was cut short by his father's death. He will be missed. Condolences to Steve's family.

John & I extend our sympathy and condolences to Gloria, Jeanne, Elaine & families and Laura. We celebrate the life of a good man and mourn his passing with you. Happy that Steve & Laura visited us in Northern Ireland in October & we had a good visit also in NYC in March. Steve was a lovely person and a good friend for 40 years. Will miss him.

A little over 25 years ago I received a call from Steve asking if I would work with him on a case. I had never met or frankly heard of him before. The call began a relationship that I hold dear to this very day and will be precious to me for the rest of my own lifetime. Steve was tenacious, tough, and as smart in the law as anyone I have ever known or worked with including in investigating the bad guys. If he was told that there was something in the law or the way a foreign government operates that makes it impossible to achieve what was in his view best for the client, he would either figure out a way to do it or get someone who could open the door. I like to think that I was often the someone who could identify the someone in some foreign or domestic location who could achieve what Steve wanted to do. Steve was a futurist in that he always saw what could be accomplished when the rest of us had serious doubts. He made us all better at what we had to do.
Steve was all business when he was working and yet after work very enjoyable to be with. It was never boring to be with him whether working or socially because he had interest in many subjects. He was genuinely a warm and caring person. Discussion was never at a loss and his advice was always solid. My contact with Steve from that first call on was continuous and his passing will leave a large void in my heart as above all Steve was a trustworthy and most loyal friend. I thought of Steve as a member of my family and truly loved him as such. He never failed to remember the welfare of my wife and family. Rest well Steve my dear friend, you deserve it. I already sorely miss you.
