SYDNEY BUTCHKES Obituary

BUTCHKES--Sydney, died at home on August 10, 2015. He was born in Covington, KY. on October 13, 1920 and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served in the Army, during World War II, first in North Africa and then in the European Front. After the war he moved to New York City and studied at The Art Students League and became a talented and versatile artist. His work includes painting, sculpture, collage, photography and pottery. He also designed book jackets for prominent publishers and was art director of Craft Horizons magazine. In the early 60's he moved to Sagaponack, Long Island where he converted an old barn into his home and studio that he shared with his good friend Luis A. Rey. In addition to Mr. Rey other survivors include his niece Stephanie, his nephew Paul, his cousin Sandy and several grand-nieces and nephews.

Sydney: I have your signed silk-screen Philodendron hanging in my apartment — so I think of you virtually every day. I miss our fabulous tennis games on your court in Sagaponack. jc

Sydney: I remember that one winter when I loaned you my black Cadillac convertiblein trade for storing it in your outbuilding for the winter, while I was in Key West. You were so amused by the license plate "Beulah". RIP my friend
