Dr. Sidney Mehl was my cardiologist for 10 or more years. He was a wonderful person. Good Doctor, very compassionate and down to earth. I will always think of him as a very good Doctor with a good sense of humor. I was very sad when NYU Langone sent me and I guess his other patients, a letter notifying us of his passing. I suspected that it was thru covid-19 that he passed, due to the timing of his passing. At first I was in disbelief that Covid-19 took so many wonderful people like Dr. Sidney Mehl. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Dr. Mehl's family and friends, especially his wife and daughters. May God bless them and comfort them thru this difficult time. Rest in peace Dr. Mehl. You are so dearly missed.

Sydney and I go back to 1972 when we worked at Bellevue. I was an attending in the Medical Walk In clinic and Sydney was a medical Resident. We hit it off immediately-both funny bright Brooklyn boys. We began socializing as we ere both single and went to many of those UJA and Israle Bonds Mixers looking for Mrs. Right. Lannie Schwartzfarb was a mutual friend and he often joined us making it a threesome. When we didn't connect and meet a lovely lady, we at least had one another to talk shop and at that time I believe Sydney knew he would be a cardiologist and Lannie a rheumatologist and me, Kenny, a Dermatologist. I would run into Sydney over the years but had mixed feelings when he married Robin...as I had a crush on Robin for years but she was involved with someone, and then all of a sudden she is married to Syd. He was such a nice, funny, direct, sincere, bright and tell it like it is friend. I regret not spending more time with him during our professional lives. He will ne missed greatly by his friends, patients and everyone who had the good fortune to know him.
All my good wishes to the family, and may you focus on all your wonderful memories.

I was shocked and terribly saddened to hear about Dr. Sydney Mehl's passing. I have been his patient for over 30 years. We were the same age and our birthday's were 2 days apart. He was a great individual, attentive to your needs, compassionate and all around a great person. My condolences to his family and the NYU community.

I was shocked & saddened when I received notice of Dr. Mehl's passing. Just last year, as a young 24-year-old, I started having severe palpitations. Dr. Mehl expedited every test, was on-call to read my EKGs when I went to the hospital, and tried his best to reassure me that I wouldn't drop dead. He was a kind man. I wish his family solace & peace.

Dr. Mehl was my primary doctor for more than 20 years. Although by and large we saw each other only once a year, my memories of him will always recall a warm, friendly and caring man. He genuinely wanted to know what was going on in my life, and always took the time to chat. My condolences to his family and friends. I will miss him, too.

22 years ago my internist told me that I had a very weak heart and that he wanted me to see a cardiologist at NYU that night. That night I saw Sydney. He explained to my wife and I exactly what the problem was in a calm reassuring manner. Not only did he save my life then but on2or 3 other occasions when other problems arose. Sydney not only was a wonderful dr but a wonderful person . A real mensch. I considered Sydney not only as my dr but as a close friend . I will miss him terribly

My husband Ira Raymond are greatly saddened by the loss of Syd as a friend, professional and humanitarian. Without his compassion and care, I would not have had these last 25 years with Ira.
We extend our love to Syd's family; indeed we felt like we were part of his.

Dr. Mehl was one of the good guys - combining real life and laughs with medicine. And, nobody could read an EKG like him. He was a proud husband and father and there was never a visit without a discussion of his family. My prayers go out to his entire family, including all of his NYU colleagues. You will he missed.

I was a patient of Dr. Mehl for ten years and he was my PCP. He was an excellent physician. When I needed surgery, he spent the time discussing the pros and cons. I would not have gone through with the surgery at my age without his approval. I will miss him. Condolences to his family.

A fine doctor and fine down-to-earth man. After over 10 years, I was beginning to feel I was getting to know him. He talked proudly of his daughter, who is just a little older than mine. In February, we discussed my upcoming retirement, with him pondering whether hed want to retire and what else he could do. Initially, he seemed skeptical, but then his interest in travel. It is so sad for him and his family that he didnt have an opportunity to explore the options. And I am sure his premature passing is a great loss to his colleagues and students.
