SYLVIA ROSENFELD Obituary
(Carvelli), 90, died April 15, 2017. An accomplished artist, she was a New York City high school teacher for 52 years and then directed student teachers at Queens College. A Renaissance woman, she earned four masters degrees. She is survived by her sons Jesse of California; and Dan, his wife Cheryl, and grandchildren Anna and Jack of Sharon, Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob (Jack). A funeral service will be held Wednesday at Sinai Chapels, Fresh Meadows, 11am. Shiva to be held at the home of Dan and Cheryl Rosenfeld, Sharon, Massachusetts on Sunday, April 23 , 1-9pm.

AND I HAVE LOVELY MEMORIES OF MISS CARVELLI FROM BACK IN 1956 OR SO WHEN SHE WAS A MUSIC AND DANCE TEACHER AT JHS 196 ON BUSHWICK AVENUE IN WILLIAMSBURGH. I STILL REMEMBER THOSE AFTERNOONS WHEN WE ALL LISTENED AND DANCED TO THE MUSICAL HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON. A NEW WORLD OPENED TO ME. RITA ZWEIFACH

I knew Sylvia as Miss Carvelli when I attended Flushing High from 1957-1961. She is one of those special memories from high school. Sylvia and I had the pleasure of reconnecting in 1999 when she and Jesse attended a student-teacher dinner I organized at a restaurant in Douglaston. My condolences to the Rosenfeld family on the passing of your beloved mom and grandmother. With fondest thoughts.
