97, died peacefully in her sleep on October 1 in Palm Desert, CA. She was predeceased by Herbert Tetenbaum, her husband of 69 years, and is survived by her children, Barbara Shepard of Las Vegas, NV, wife of Curtis Shepard; Abraham Tetenbaum of Los Angeles, CA, husband of Elizabeth R. Shafer; and Zelda Yoder of Reading, PA, wife of Mark Yoder. Additionally, she is survived by grandchildren Adam, Sara, Jon Minh, Lily, Isaac, Keith and Suzanne, four great-grandchildren, and also her brother Albert Balopole. She was predeceased by sister Beatrice Feldman and brothers Murray Balopole and William Balopole. Born Sylvia Balopole in Bayonne, NJ on April 23, 1921, she lived most of her life in Brooklyn and Long Beach, NY before moving to California in 2013. She graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School and worked as a legal secretary before becoming a full-time homemaker and part-time receptionist at her husband's OB-GYN practice. She took pride in her extensive fundraising for Chicago Medical School and the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. She was known for her kindness, beauty, mischievous humor, advice both practical and profound, marvelous cooking, organizing theater parties and enjoying unbelievable good luck at the racetrack. She fulfilled and transcended the traditional roles of Jewish mother and doctor's wife in countless ways.
