THEODORE STERNKLAR Obituary

STERNKLAR--Theodore, died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, October 24. He was 89. A refugee of the Holocaust, he was born in Austria and his family fled the Nazis via Cuba in the 1940s. He was proud of his heritage and became a proud New Yorker as well. A loyal and passionate defender of Israel, he helped the Haganah (in the beginning of Israel in 1948) in his teenage years for the justice he intensely felt. He was first in his class at Columbia Law School. Later as a fierce litigator, he had honesty and integrity, and was known as a passionate advocate for his clients (to the end and success of each case). Ted was not always "politically correct"; he was strong-willed, principled and unafraid of giving his opinion, and his scholarship and brilliance were integral parts of his being. As an early mentee of his once said: "He was one-of-a- kind." His joy was his family: his beloved wife of more than 30 years, Adrienne Wincor Sternklar, his step-children Julie and Anita, and his step-grandchildren: Maddie, Ethan, Joe and Zev. Ted loved cool jazz, as well as autumn in Paris where he and Adrienne spent their birthdays every year. He will be lovingly remembered always. Donations in Ted's name may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

My most vivid and fun memory of Ted was when all the male cousins got up together and sang at Bob Falley´s wedding. We couldn´t stop laughing!
