TIMOTHY ELAND Obituary

ELAND--Timothy B. B. Timothy B. B. Eland died Thursday, August 3rd at the age of 85 at his home in Manhattan after a long illness. Tim was the cherished husband of Caddie (Cornelia) Zagat Eland to whom he was married for 55 years, father to Nel Ellwein (Charles) of San Francisco and Rachel (Carlos) Sagebien of Skillman, NJ, and the loved grandfather to four girls. He leaves behind two sisters, Jane Donahue of Wellesley, MA and Faith Shepard of New Canaan, CT. Born to British parents, Ursula and Michael J.N. Eland, and raised in New York City, in England, and in Stamford, CT, Tim graduated from Brown University in 1959. Following a short stint in the army he worked at Young and Rubicam in advertising. He later moved to product development and formed his own company, Eland Brookbanks Vector. Tim had a keen interest in landscape architecture which he pursued at an old dairy farm in Millerton, NY purchased in 1973. He spent many happy hours developing the landscape, designing gardens and renovating an old barn on the property to become an additional home. Tim was a longtime parishioner at Church of the Heavenly Rest and a memorial service will be held there. Date and time to be announced.

I became aware of Tim´s passing long after it occurred. It was only this morning that I worked up the courage to look for the obituary. After seeing it, I tried to explain to my wife how much this man helped and inspired me early in my career. In the process, I couldn´t hold back the tears. I worked with Tim at his company, Eland Brookbanks Vector. I was the first employee there. Tim was an incredibly generous and warm person. He was the best mentor in my early years. He was uniquely honest, genuine and kind. At times, work required a late night or weekend. Tim would invite me to his NY apartment or his upstate place. I got to know his beautiful family and to see that he was a loving husband and father. What a role model. I was in my early 20s then. Now mid 60s, I will never forget this wonderful man. Thank you Tim. Rest in peace.
