Rest in peace.
I just finished watching "The Last Days" by Steven Spielberg.

I wanted to leave a message for Mr. Lantos, letting him know how touched I was watching this documentary, and that I became very emotional when he was talking about how his children were going to give him the gift of many grandchildren! I have taken a class on the shoah/holocaust, and genocide in general, and I have had the pleasure to meet a guest lecturer who survived the holocaust. I feel every time that I watch a movie or documentary on the holocaust just reminds me how fortunate I am that I did not have to survive such an terrifying, and life altering experience as so many did in the holocaust.

I am saddened to hear that Mr. Lantos has passed, but I still wanted to sign this guest book to pay my most sincere respect to the memory of such a noble human being.

Thank you for allowing me to do so.

Kind Regards

I took Tom's 8 AM introductory economics class when I was an undergraduate at SFSU in 1960. Although I was not particularly interested in the subject at that time, Tom's inspiring lectures got me to class on time (most mornings) and I benefited in other disciplines from the rigorous intellectual approach that he brought to that classroom. He was a great teacher and public servant. My sympathies go to his family and friends.

It is a privilege for me to sign this Guest Book for an honorable, ethical, and caring human being. We have so few of them in our world today that to lose one is a loss for all humanity. I came to know of Mr. Lantos through our love of God's creatures who are not homo sapiens but who deserve love, respect, and care if for no other reason than God has made them. I see that his love for these creatures extended to the human family, as well. I send to you, his family, my deepest and heartfelt sympathy in your loss, but I can assure you, without doubt, that God has called him Home to be with Him, and He will never forget all of the good that Mr. Lantos engendered during his time on earth. I am certain that he has touched the lives of many, has made a lasting impression on them, and has become for them an exemplary role model of what a true human being should be. I thank God for sharing him with us, and I ask Him to richly bless him and all of you.

Who knew that this lanky blond kid I met some 60 years ago would soar so high and do so much good on this earth.I saw him only off and on over the years since but he always remained my friend, Tommy. What a profound honor to have known him. What a profound sadness to have lost him. My heart goes out to Annette and the large family Tommy leaves behind, replacing the one he lost in childhood.

To the Lantos Family,

I always looked up to and admired Mr. Lantos. I originally learned his story from the media and from what I've read about him long ago. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to meet him. Every time it was mentioned that he was a Holocaust survivor it would remind me of how proud I am to be a Jew. Someone like him, who has been through so much but still became an outstanding and productive member of society, hopefully gives others the push they need to strive for their own personal greatness.

I know Mr. Lantos was a truly remarkable person and loving family member and will surely be missed. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Peace to you and your family.

I extend my condolences to Tom Lantos' beautiful family who meant so much to him. I will always remember the final scene of "The Last Days" when the camera panned to Mr. Lantos and his beautiful grandchildren frolicking around him on a very green lawn. He commented, "The Holocaust could not take this away from me." They destroyed his whole family but he felt the re-growth of his heritage in his children and grandchildren. I will never forget this comment and the scene. I feel your loss and know that you must be comforted in knowing how proud he was of his family.
Very sincerely,

Tom Lantos is my idea of a real hero, his courage in his youth in Hungary and his life in Congress present an ideal. Condolences from my family, my mother Lillian French worked as a volunteer for him in the 1990's, however she passed on in 1995, so I will express the sadness I know she would have had. We were on the Peninsula for 20 years, and a lifetime in the Bay Area, but now in Princeton.
God bless him.

I think, I can write- THE WORLD has lost a political, who is one of the bigest.

Rest in Peace, Dear Mr. Lantos!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not're coming here to me.

Dear Mrs. Lantos:
Though I am a conservative Republican, not even residing in Tom Lantos' district or state, I called his office, several years ago, to tell his office that I wished Tom was my Congressman. This I did, because of the extreme decency of this noble man. Now, it is true that I am Jewish, BUT, the phone call to his office was made BEFORE I even knew he was a co-religionist. I want you to know that there is a multitude of us who revered Tom Lantos as the most decent public servant of our time. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with you at this time. God bless you

Human rights and democracy activists worldwide lost a dear friend. I cannot think of any Members of Congress that are more eloquent, elegant and demonstrate firmer principles and belief in human rights than Congressman Lantos did. As an immigrant from Taiwan, I am forever indebted to Congressman Lantos who chose to stand with the small and the less powerful despite the rest of the world succumbed to the pressure from China. Tom Lantos was ever so kind to my family, when my father, who was the Executive Director of the San Mateo County Housing Authority, passed away in 1984. Both he and my father worked together on housing issues that affected San Mateo County. Tom wrote a sensitive and kindly tribute to our family, praising my father's work and good character. This was so very comforting to our family in 1984 and has since become a treasured family heirloom that hangs in the wall of our home to this day. Our family will never forget his kind offer of assistance during the mourning process for my father. As a native of San Mateo County, I can attest to the fact that he was one of the few politicians out there that was truly concerned with the common man/woman. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends. He was a great man. Rest in peace, Tom....
