UTTAM SETHI

SETHI--Uttam ("Tom"). Uttam ("Tom") Sethi of Sands Point, NY passed away on December 2, 2025 just short of his 92nd birthday. Born in Pindigheb in an undivided India, he survived the horrors of Partition and months in a refugee camp. He attended East Punjab University, then married Amrit Chaudhry and moved to the US to study Engineering Management at Boston University. In Boston, he developed a lifelong taste for American comfort foods like Salisbury steak and chicken pot pie. He received his MA in Engineering while working full-time at General Foods in Delaware and raising his family. The Sethis moved to New York in 1969 and he never wanted to go anywhere else: he loved Ben's Deli, his garden, presiding over (58!) Thanksgiving dinners, construction projects, barbecues on the 4th of July, fireworks on Diwali, and hanging out with his beloved grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Amrit Sethi, his children Anita, Rita (Akhil Unni), Paul (Amy), and grandchildren Nathan Lefcowitz, Sabina Unni, Eli Lefcowitz, Zoya Unni, Avanika Lefcowitz, Karina Sethi, Marco Sethi, and Leo Sethi.
