VIOLETTE VERDY Obituary
The George Balanchine Foundation mourns the loss of the ebullient ballerina, Violette Verdy. Brilliant on stage; Violette displayed remarkable talent during her performing career. Later, as an inspired teacher and coach, she passed on her profound knowledge of the roles created for her by Mr. Balanchine. The Foundation was fortunate to have captured on film some of her insights, keen intelligence, warmth and delightful personality for its Video Archive Series. Violette will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Verdy was absolutely talented and she inspired others with her gift. She will be truly missed by those whose hearts were touched by her. Ms. Verdy was an inspiration to the numerous students that studied under her at School of American Ballet, including me.
Her mother, Madame took us into her home while we intensively learned our art. In the classroom and in her mother's home, she was kind and genuine. I was in awe of her.
I have built a ballet school, and I often share my experiences living with Madame and knowing Violette with my students. They helped shape my life.
To her family, I am sad for your loss. May she rest in peace. ~J

Ms. Verdy was one of the reasons I became a ballerina when I was 6 years old! My aunt and uncle took me to see her perform - it was magic! Enjoy Heaven, Violette!

I had a scholarship with the NYC Ballet at 17
Then after studying there I returned home to Syracuse, NY. Syracuse Ballet Theater & teacher Richard Sias brought her for a visit,its was an honor to have met her.
She was a lovely dancer.
