WARREN SHAPIRO Obituary

SHAPIRO--Warren Bruce. It is with immense sadness that we write that Dr. Warren Bruce Shapiro, son of the late Aaron and Diana Shapiro, nephrologist, oenophile, world traveler, chef, raconteur, lover of model trains and Turner Classic Movies and watches with many complications, passed away on January 12, 2025, surrounded by family. He had just turned 83. Born and raised in Brooklyn long before it was cool, he graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in biology and then attended the Chicago Medical School, now Rosalind Franklin University. He moved to San Francisco for his residency, and from there, courted his beloved wife, Jane Shapiro (nee Isaacson), whom he had met in college. They married in 1967, eventually moving from San Francisco to Manhattan and then to Springfield, VA, where Warren served as a Major in the Army at Fort Belvoir. It was in Virginia that their first child, Joshua, was born. They then moved to Brooklyn, where Warren began his long career at Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he built and ran the dialysis program. Eventually, the family moved to Woodsburgh, on Long Island, where two daughters, Nina and Sarah, were born in quick succession. After 22 years on Long Island, he and Jane moved into Manhattan, where they enjoyed entertaining, museums, moviegoing, dining out, and simply shpatziring along the many streets of the city. His family had hoped for more years with him, but they feel lucky to have shared so many wonderful experiences and memories. He is survived by his wife, three children, five grandchildren (Asher, Phoebe, Dean, Emma, and Cecelia), and his sister Darline. The family will be sitting shiva at Jane's home.

Hi
Warren was first my teacher and then colleague at brookdale for many many years.
He was a truly brilliant, dedicated physician who taught me so much. His calm , confident demeanour reflected his deep knowledge and his ability to solve difficult medical problems.
It´s painful to hear of his passing.
( by coincidence- I also have a daughter Nina and a daughter Sarah!)
