WILLARD BOOTHBY Obituary

BOOTHBY--Willard S., Jr., died at the age of 92 on March 22 in Hobe Sound, FL after complications from a fall. He was the devoted husband of 68 years to Florence (Gigi), loving father to Willard Sands Boothby III, Richard Cheney Boothby, and Ann Boothby LeBreton, their spouses Linda, Melen, and David, adored grandfather of Elizabeth, Will, Kate, Jay, Sarah, Hadley, Colby, and David, and great-grandfather Lilly, Bennett, and Eloise. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he graduated with a BS in Engineering from Lehigh University. He joined Eastman Dillon in Philadelphia in 1950, became President and CEO of Blyth Eastman Dillon in New York in 1971, continuing as Chairman and CEO until 1980. He was Chairman of the Securities Industry Association, and on numerous boards, including Burlington Industries Inc, Georgia-Pacific Corp, Getty Oil Co, and Sperry Rand Corp, and a Director and Trustee of Glenmede Trust for 22 years. He was a civic leader in Philadelphia, serving on many organizations, including as President of the Academy of Music for eight years, Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Chairman of the Committee of Seventy, Chairman of the Century IV Committee organizing the Philadelphia Bicentennial Celebration, and on the Board of Overseers of William Penn Charter School. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service was held on March 28 on Jupiter Island. A memorial service will be held May 17 at 11:30am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 22 East Chestnut Hill Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118. In lieu of flowers, please direct contributions to The Academy of Music Restoration Fund, Attn: Claire Allamby, The Philadelphia Orchestra Association, One South Broad St., 14th fl., Philadelphia, PA 19107.
