LUERS--William H. The Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies is deeply saddened by the death of William H. Luers. A U.S. Navy veteran and a distinguished and resolute diplomat, he devoted his life to advancing democracy and the arts abroad. His storied career in the foreign service spanned more than 30 years across Europe and Latin America, where he navigated difficult political regimes and defended against communism. His diplomatic acumen forged consequential relationships with everyone from Vaclav Havel to Fidel Castro, employing art and culture to build common ground. As President of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bill continued his lifelong promotion of the arts and had a meaningful impact on the historic institution. FAPE is forever grateful for the steadfast support of Bill and Wendy, his beloved wife and partner of more than 45 years, and a FAPE Founder and President Emerita.
