It is with great sadness that I heard of Bill Modell's passing. He truly was the light in the hallways in the Modell's Home office. My deepest sympathy go out to his wife, Shelby, and family. I will always remember his words in the hallways at Modell's "How you doin Kid?" Bill will be missed more than you can imagine.

To Shelby and the family -
Linda and I send you our deepest sympathy. Bill was such a dear friend to our family for a lifetime and it is just as hard to think of the world without him as it is to think of it without my parents. But the world will never really be without Bill. His legacy will be lasting.
Love from us both,
Robert and Linda Gordon

The world is a different place with Bill not in it. He was a wonderful man who treated everyone with respect and dignity. Bill showed you how important you were no matter who you are. His spirit of giving to help others was matched by his business savy. When he committed to something there was nothing he wouldnt do or no one he wouldnt reach out to make that thing special. I was fortunate enough to work at one of those things the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, Inc. (CCFA).
CCFA was Bill and His Beautifull wife Shelby's second home during the months of October - December and the Annual NY Chapter Dinner (now know as the Michael S. Modell Memorial Dinner) is now the Highest Grossing Dinner in the CCFA raising over $1.5 Million each year to help
others who suffer with these horrible diseases. His commitment to CCFA was incredible it is only matched to his commitment to his Family. I am deeply sadened that I will never be able to tell him how much he meant to me and the NY Chapter. Bill we will miss you terribly God Bless you. My Deepest sympathis to Shelby, Mitchell, Leslie, Abby, Shawny and the Entire Modell Family and the Entire Modell Sporting Goods Team he loved you all like you were his other children.

To Shelby, Mitchell and Leslie - I've kept track of the boys over the years, from FLA, seeing the growth of Mo's and all of the work your family put into Colitis and Crohn's. It isn't hard for me to reach back and envision the 60s in your backyard at all. Part of that piece of my childhood was Bill, who I recall as having a personality as soft as butter. Not many families can say they had someone so beloved by so many. I will keep him and you in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Ned

To the Modell family we grieve with you today on your loss. Bill and Shelby Modell were heros to my family when I was so sick from colitis and then when both Bill and Shelby made me the 2005 rising star award and enabled me to share my story at the Micheal Modell annual dinner dance. It is with extreme sadness that we must say goodbye to Bill and we will be there for you Shelby whenever you need us. The Aarons Family

My father George Barr grew up with the person he called "Billie Modell." During my childhood, I always heard how Henry Modell gave my father his first job working in the Modell store stock room. When I was a child my parents took me to meet Rose and Henry Modell in Florida. I have a vivid memory of this meeting. In short hearing my father's stories about Henry and Billie Modell are a part of the narrative of my life. I know that my father would have been very sad to learn of Mr. Modell's death so I want to express my condolences in his name. I hope that at this very moment my father and Mr. Modell are having a nice conversation about their Jewish boyhoods in Brooklyn.
