Carl Hand Obituary
July 24, 1941 - November 14, 2021
A funeral service for Carl Allen Hand, 80, of Columbus, GA (formerly of Opelika, AL) is Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11:00 am CST at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home with Dr. Mike King officiating. A private burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA. Visitation will be Friday, November 19, 2021 from 5-7 pm CST at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
Mr. Hand was born July 24, 1941 in Houston County, Alabama and went to be with his Lord on November 14, 2021 at Columbus Hospice. He was known for his kind heart and his dedication to his community. He was known to many as "Mr. Shoeman" because he fit them in shoes from infant to adulthood. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Opelika where he shared his faith and kindness with those he met.
He is preceded in death by his wife Martha C. Hand; parents W. Hubert and Ruby E. Hand; brother James Hand; sister Margarite Catton. He is survived by his children, Mark A. Hand and Lynn H. (Jim) Story; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Anest, Michael (Danielle) Story, and Hayley (Chase) Childs; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Anest and Oliver Story; a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church in Opelika, AL or to the Spencer Cancer Center in Opelika, AL.
Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home is directing.

I had the pleasure of working with Carl at Gayfer´s. He was a true friend and I loved seeing him with Martha when they visited the store He loved his family more than anything

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Hand´s passing. I´ve known Mr. Hand for 40 years. He was a wonderful and caring man. He fit my son with his very first pair of shoes. His first pair were EEE width! My son is 39 years old now!! Mr. Hand knew his profession well. I also recall waiting on him and Mrs. Martha whenever they brought their deposit to the bank where I worked. I know he will be missed by many.

So very sorry for all of the family. Carl and Martha were some of the most kind people I ever knew. My favorite memory was of the two of them on a family trip to Tybee returning from the ice cream shop, hands full of ice cream cones and big grins on their faces.

Sorry to hear of Mr. Carl's passing. I have fond memories of the Hand family growing up on Jollit Avenue in Opelika and buying shoes as I grew up from Mr. Carl. He was one of the nicest people I knew in my younger days.
