Dorothy Ann Griffin Bolden
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Dorothy Ann Griffin Bolden will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 in Brooklyn, NY at Nazarene Congregational United Church of Christ.
Dorothy Ann Griffin was born to Addie Bell Griffin in Opelika, AL. She was reared by her maternal grandmother, Pearl Griffin while her mother was living in New York City to support the family. Dorothy attended church and school in Opelika. She accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 12, while attending a revival at Shiloh A.M.E. Zion Church and joined Thompson A.M.E. Zion in Opelika.
After graduating from J.W. Darden High School in 1956, Dorothy attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tenn. Upon graduation from Tennessee State, she moved to Brooklyn, NY with her mother Addie and step-father, Robert Flakes. When Dorothy moved to Brooklyn, she joined the First A.M.E. Zion Church. under the pastorate of Dr. W.O. Carrington (grandfather of Rev. Robert O. Simpson, former pastor of Janes United Methodist Church).
Dorothy was married to the late Clarence E. Bolden Jr. and from their union were born two beautiful daughters, Beverly Renee and Regina Nicole.
Dorothy loved the Lord, her children, her Nazarene church family, and her life
long friends who always supported her. She tried to do as much as she could to exemplify what it meant to be a Christian. She trusted God and one of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 121.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Beverly and Regina Bolden. Cousins Jimmy (Carla) Perkins of Birmingham, AL, Debra Marshall of Opelika, AL, and Daryll Marshall of Atlanta, Georgia. Adopted cousins, Cheryl Balfour-Perry, Deborah Balfour-Chisholm, and Robbin Balfour-Austin. Special Sister Friends, Jeanette A. Peters of Opelika, AL, Dorothy Cooper of Texas, Chinissa Roberson of Schenectady, NY, Bernice Davis, Peggy Hickman, and Cathleen Snyder all Brooklyn, NY and special brother Harold Williams of Smyrna, Georgia, as well as a host of friends and extended family members.
