Gerald Lindsey Obituary
Gerald Buren Lindsey passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026 with family members at his side.
Gerald was born on April 5, 1934, the son of George Buren and Maudie Bell (Bryan) Lindsey. He grew up in the Pine Level Community near Brantley, Alabama. He attended school in both Pine Level and Brantley.
Gerald served in the United States Army in the mid-1950s and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. He studied television and radio repair at The Devry Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. He later moved to Auburn, Alabama where he opened and operated Lindsey T.V. Sales and Service. He was also a co-founder and owner of one of Auburn's first taxicab services. In his later years, he enjoyed working with the College of Forestry at Auburn University through a seniors' outreach program sponsored by the University. Forestry was a subject he connected with strongly, having studied and enjoyed it while growing up in South Alabama. He resided in Auburn until 2017, when he relocated to North Alabama to be with family.
Gerald was widely known for his extraordinary ability to repair almost anything mechanical or electrical. He had a natural and uncanny talent for understanding how things worked and problem solving. Equally memorable was his laser-sharp wit and impeccable sense of timing. His clever one-liners and quick retorts often landed perfectly, bringing laughter and admiration from those around him. He remained mentally sharp and engaged until his final days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his five brothers: James, John, Gareth, Vance and Bryan; his two sisters: Sarah Nell Hancock and Myra "Jan" Sport and a grandson, Atticus Lindsey.
He is survived by his children: Jerry Lindsey of Dallas, Texas, Iris (John Shaver) Lindsey of Huntsville, Alabama, George Lindsey of Athens, Georgia, and Wendy Coffey of Fayetteville, Tennessee and their mother Socorro Lindsey of Athens, Georgia. Other survivors include 8 grandchildren: Taylor (Kelsi) Smith, Sean Coffey, Lindsey (Zach) Greene, Gregory Coffey, Cecil Coffey, Colette Coffey, Noah Lindsey, Ashby Lindsey, 5 great-grandchildren and 20 nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Pine Level Community Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home of Elba, Alabama.
