John Belk Obituary
Funeral service for John W. Belk, III age 39, of Auburn is 11:00 a.m. CST Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Central Baptist Church. Burial is in Garden Hills Cemetery. Revs. Gerald Sykes, and Don Turner are officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. CST at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
Mr. Belk, who died Sunday, August 24, 2008 in Lee County, was born August 17, 1969 in Columbus, Georgia. John had lived most of his life in Lee County. He graduated from Glenwood High School, received his Associates degree from Chattahoochee Valley Community College, and attended Auburn University. He worked with the Phenix City Police Department and had been with the Opelika Police Department for the past 14 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, and was an avid fisherman, and hunter. He was a good father to his children.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Causey Belk of Auburn; children, J.W. Belk, IV, Austin Belk, Stephen Causey, and Karri Eastridge; mother, Rebecca R. Belk of Phenix City; father, John W. "Billy" Belk, Jr. and wife, Brenda Belk of Salem; two sisters, Ashley B.Hart and Daina Wooten both of Salem; brother, Jason Ninas of Phenix City; grandfather, John W. Belk, Sr. of Columbus, GA; grandmothers, Mable Belk of Salem, and Nezabline Mason of Columbus, GA; uncles, Lt. Col. Frank W. Bockman and wife Carol of Marietta, GA, and Ronald Belk and wife Susan Belk of Salem; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Jean Causey of Opelika; brother-in-law, Steve Causey, and dogs, Ringo, and Elli Mae.

To the Belk family, my heart and prayers go out to you in this time of such great loss.I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. And as a child is how I remember John ; as a little boy in elementary school at Glenwood. He was a little doll and all boy. I was in my first years of teaching there. Then as he grew older and was a policeman he stopped me one day on Lakewood Drive in Phenix City and gave me a ticket. I needed it even though I told him it was not nice to treat an old teacher like that. From what I see here he was an awesome in his role as a son,grandson, father, husband, brother,friend, co-worker and policeman. What a terrible loss but what a blessing to have had a son like him.

Janis, Austin, JW, you are all in our thoughts. John was a great friend to my husband Judson, and helped through the loss of his brother in January. I remember seeing John at Jeremy's funeral, and he was crying- his compassion and love for others was enormous.

Right now there is nothing that anyone can say to make things better. I was in your shoes 7 weeks ago when my husband passed away at a very young age. My only advise is to stay strong in the Lord, Live only for today because we don't know what the tomorrow has in store for us and thank God daily for the time that you did have with John.
