Mr. John Harris, 71, of Opelika, AL, who passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Piedmont Healthcare in Columbus, Georgia was born January 18, 1951, in Lee County, Alabama.
Funeral service for John Harris will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, at St. Luke A.M.E. Church, 1308 Auburn Street, Opelika, AL, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, 1409 Monroe Avenue, Opelika, AL. The Rev. Monique Summers will officiate. Public viewing will be Friday, January 20, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Facial covering is required). Mr. Harris will lie-in-repose one hour at the church prior to the service.
He leaves to cherish his memory six children, John Andrew Harris Jr., of Opelika, AL, Wesley (Winona) Harris of Wyandanch, New York, Monique Harris of Columbus, GA, Andrew Harris of Opelika, AL, Andrea (Tyree) Henderson of Opelika, AL and Reneka Harris of Columbus, GA; two sisters, Jacqueline (Ephesians) Strickland of Opelika, AL and Selina Dillard of Columbus, GA; stepsister, Ida (Marshall) Carter of Opelika, AL; sister-in-law, Willie Ella Harris of Tuskegee, AL; seventeen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

My sincerest condolences to the family of County Commissioner John Harris. May God comfort, strengthen, & bring peace to his family, friends, & the community. You fought a good fight. You stayed the course, and now there is a crown of righteousness laid up for you. You had a big heart and you would help everyone that needed it. You´re right John they say you´re the man. It was an honor and privilege to know you. We shall see you again one day when this world is over. God does no wrong. Rest on and fly high my friend. I don´t say good bye but later.
