Jon Oleinick Obituary
January 11, 1954 - May 17, 2022
Passed away on May 17, 2022 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, AL.
Jon was born in Queens, New York and grew up in New York and Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Ashland College with a degree in elementary education and attended graduate school at the University of Iowa where he met and married the love of his life Tracy. Together they attended grad school at California Institute of the Arts and moved to NYC to design lights for Brooklyn College. In NYC Jon worked for Rosco Labs and Rose Brand for the theatrical supply industry. Jon moved to Auburn in 1996 for Tracy's job as a professor at Auburn. In Auburn Jon worked as a materials manager at Master Brand Cabinet.
Jon's passion was coaching baseball. He coached Dixie Youth teams of 9- & 10-year-olds for 25 years. He taught young men to love the game and respect the rules.
Jon was preceded in death by his mother Cynthia, father Julius and his uncle Philip Shnapier.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Tracy Oleinick, his son Jason, daughter Anna, grandchildren Georgia, Jackson, Mackenzie, and Madison.
Visitation will be held in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Friday, May 20, 2022 from 10:00 until 10:50 a.m. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Interment to be held at Auburn Memorial Park.
A memorial event for players and families of the Yankees teams he coached over the years will take place this summer in July, date and time TBA.
In lieu of flowers: Please donate to Congregation Beth Shalom. A scholarship will be created in honor of Jon for local Auburn Dixie Youth families that may not be able to afford baseball fees every year.

As I start preparing for baseball season, and setting up training for the new umpires coming in to the service of the game for the first time. I think of Jon a lot. Who will we send the rookie umpires too to be taught respect for the game and how to carry themselves to teach that respect to the young players. Jon was always my example and role model. Jon you are gravely missed.

jon was by far one of the best people i have ever met! every time i was injured he would always suprise me with brusters! he would also bring evie over for suprise visits because he knew i loved her so much and wish i could have a dog like her! i will never forget the times i went golfing with my dad and him. it was so funny to watch him hit it repeatedly in the water and then throw his club. i will also mever forget all the balls he would try to scoup up from the water hazard! jon, i will never forget you! i am praying for your family! you will be missed.

I worked wih Jon at Masterbrand Cabinets. He was such a kind man; always a gentleman, always at his best. And he absolutely LOVED being a grandfather! I am praying for your family. Jon will truly be missed.

We will miss seeing Jon at Auburn baseball games. He and Tracy were so welcoming when we joined the season ticket holders in their section. Charlie always enjoyed visiting with Jon at the practices, too. Prayers for Jon's family.

Coach Oleinick was a wonderful person and he made such a difference in the lives of the young players he coached. He modeled the values he expected of his players and kept up with them throughout their lives, their families as well. He was a genuinely good person. We will be praying for Tracy and their family.

The Walley family will certainly miss this coach/mentor. He has poured into many young 9/10 baseball players, but he has continued to pour into our son's life since that time. We are so thankful for all of life lessons that Coach O. shared with Todd. We will forever remember and be grateful to Coach O. We are praying for Tracy and her family during this time of loss.
