Marialyce Grubbs Obituary

Marialyce Chapman Grubbs

January 19, 1932 - August 31, 2025

Marialyce Chapman Grubbs, aged 93, and a former resident of Dothan, AL, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, in Opelika, AL.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in the Glover Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. prior to the service.

Marialyce was born in Geneva, AL, to the late John Emmett and Alice Cordelia Sasser Chapman. She attended Geneva County Schools, where she met the love of her life, Rogers Grubbs. They married in her senior year, and she graduated with her class at Geneva High School in 1950. They started their family a year later, and so she began her lifelong dual career as a mother and a Federal Civil Service professional. She worked for the Department of Defense at several military bases, including Fort Rucker (Fort Novosel), Fort Carson, and NAS Dallas, and later with the U.S. Customs service. Upon retirement, the couple returned to Dothan and joined the First United Methodist Church and the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. Marialyce was a member of the Women's Study Club and an avid Bridge player. Above all, she was devoted to her family.

Surviving are four adult children, Charles R. "Roddy" Grubbs Jr. (Melody), Lyn Grubbs Felling (Christopher), John H Grubbs, and Stephen Grubbs (Terri). She delighted in her eight grandchildren, Hilary Grubbs (Andre' Provencher), Liz Saunders (Brad), Stewart Grubbs (Shaina), Sabrina Hurley, John Alan Grubbs (Mary Frances), Jared Grubbs (Kacie), Katrina Williams (Clayton), Dale Porter Grubbs; and three step-grandchildren, Christy Jo Waylan (Hunter), Miranda Broyles (Allen), and Mason Smith. Marilayce was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Leo Hurley, Luke Hurley, Vanna Bama Saunders, Rachael Lyn Saunders, John Charles Grubbs, Ren Broyles, and Robyn Broyles. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews, including her dear Spanish family, Carlos Chapman, Sara Chapman; and sister-in-law, Maria Delores Chapman.

Marialyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Charles Rogers Grubbs; son, Stanley Chapman Grubbs; daughter-in-law, Deborah Stewart Grubbs; infant son, David Stephen; her parents; and her siblings, Susan Chapman Harris, Richard Chapman, John Emmett Chapman Jr, Coleman Chapman, and Joseph Carl Chapman.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Morningside Assisted Living of Auburn for their compassionate care this past year.
