Rusty, skills talent's underrated! No ego! The notes and music just flowed with his life on stage, in the studio! The politics of recording industry kept Poco below Star status ,like credence, eagles! Yet the music made it's way for us to appreciate! Thanks for the music, talent's,tunes that dance into our hearts! R I P

This is horrible news. Rusty Young may he forever Rest In Peace. Rusty and Poco were such a amazing part of my life. Their music and especially Rusty and his amazing musicianship gave me the desire to learn to play music on my own. His and Poco's music got me through many hurtful times in my life and always lifted my spirits. The many songs he wrote have such deep meaning and are what writing music is all about. He will surely be missed by me and so many others. Thanks for keeping the music alive in my heart and soul. R.I.P.

Rusty was an amazing musician and man whom I have admired for many many many years. He always had time to chat with a starstruck fan at the end of the show which I was blessed enough to get to speak to him three times. September 11,1971 was a seminal day in my musical history. It was a beautiful, sunny day in Bloomington Indiana and I had tickets to a concert at the "old Stadium" which had been relegated to use for concerts, intramural sports and the annual "Little Five" bike race. I was a jazz fan and Bill "Chase" was one of the bands on the playbill along with Richie Havens (headliner) and a number of other bands including Poco. I was not a fan of country music but I was a big fan of harmonies. I couldn't tell you all these years later who played in what order except that, in all likelihood Richie Havens was last. By the end of the concert, I only remembered Poco. They made every other band forgettable. I was sold. I had never heard a band that was that tight in both the vocal harmonies and the incredible musicianship. Of course Rusty was a huge part of that experience. They became my favorite band of the 1970's rivalled only by a duet featuring one of Poco's founding members. I followed them throughout their entire career. I will miss Rusty. His playing was unparalleled. Rest in Peace, my friend.

I started listening to this band from the very first album. I was 14. Their music has woven throughout my life. I had the privilege of seeing them many times. I met his mother at a show. She was so proud of her son. And a lot of fun to dance with! Rusty thank you for all the great music that I will carry in my heart forever. ❤ To Mary and his family and friends I send you all love and peace. May you all feel the comfort of your Angels as they surround in your grief! Travel in peace Rusty. Till we meet again!

I first heard Poco in the 70's and has been a huge part of my life ever since. His harmonies, guitar playing but especially that pedal steel, were without equal. I have the dvd Pickin up the Pieces, and the 1st track Where did the time go? sums up perfectly my wife and my history after we met again after 30 years. We played it at our wedding, then there's Magnolia, and Heart of the Night send shivers up my spine. Never to be forgotten

I had went down to Las Vegas with my Parents and actually got to see and listen to Poco play 2 times at the Boulder Station in Las Vegas They were awesome I knew alot of their songs after their show I was able to visit a little bit and get an Autograph the only thing I had was one of my Glamor photos I had taken at Walmart the whole Band signed it. I didn't know if there was a fan club anymore in but I wrote to someone and asked next thing I know I received a post card in the mail from Rusty Young that totally made my day I even got to talk to Rusty on the phone a few times He was so Nice I lost contact after that I am glad I was His Friend and I will always remember him

We went into a restaurant to have dinner before the show and Rusty and his wife were sitting at the bar having dinner. WHAT A LOVELY MAN! I was blessed to see them at the Ridgefield playhouse in Connecticut. I was at the merchandise stand when I was chatting with this lovely woman and it turned out to be his wife Mary. I asked her if he would play on anybody's records? And she told me that usually he charges $500 / song. And then she added; " Oh but he's an old softie that's why I married him!" She asked me how many songs I had and I said I was doing a country project so maybe six. And she said to send them all and he would probably play on all of them and probably just charge you $1,000 for the whole package! I was astounded! The show was unbelievable and the harmonies were perfect as usual! Brought me to tears on several occasions! After the show the whole Band came out and I introduced myself and he couldn't have been a nicer person! I spent some time chatting with him more so than the rest of the band because he's one of my heroes! By the time they left I had their home phone number and personal email address! Who does that? I just remember walking away, being in this business for so long and struggling like so many other musicians and thinking to myself what a down-to-earth wonderful human being you just had the opportunity to meet!
So rest in PEACE my BROTHER! And for all of us "POCONUTS" - REST EASY because you have changed the face of music! And to Mary and your children find solace in the fact that you were able to spend so much time with so much beautiful music and such a lovely beautiful man...

I and Todd Schiffman managed Poco at the height of their popularity in the early 70's. Poco was innovative with Rusty's steel guitar, which created the foundation for Poco's new country rock sound, which later was followed by the Eagles. What we didn't know or realize at the time was that Rusty was the star songwriter. After key Poco members left Poco, including Randy Meisner, Jim Messina, Timothy Schmidt, and Richie Furay, Rusty became the star songwriter with Poco's only hit. Rusty will be remembered as a talented musician, songwriter, and gentle human being. Rest in peace. Larry Larson
