AMARILLO Bobby Gene Murdock, 71, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Cox Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, at Valley View Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Larry Dunlap and Pastor Rob Seale officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery
Bobby was born on January 16, 1942, in Hall County to John and Zona Murdock. He was raised in Memphis, TX, before moving to Amarillo, where he married Patsy Newberry in 1958. Bobby worked for State Chemical, as well as Affiliated Foods. He married Donna Johnson on November 21, 1969, in Amarillo. He was employed with Jack Cooper Transports, retiring in 1999. He and Donna moved to Howardwick, where they resided for over 14 years. There, he was a member of the Teamsters, served as a volunteer fire fighter and was the Alderman on the City Council. They were active members of Calvary Baptist Church in Clarendon and Odessa. They spent 7 years working summers at Fun Valley in South Fork, CO, where he fried up the best fried chicken in Colorado and Texas. He retired from there in 2011, due to his declining health. Bobby was very social and enjoyed the company of others, specifically in card and dominoes playing. He enjoyed woodworking and craft making in his spare time.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, J.H., Billy and Elton Murdock.
SURVIVORS Wife of 44 years, Donna Murdock of Odessa; 3 sons, Scott Murdock and wife Marcia, Victor Wilkins and wife Patty of Amarillo and David Murdock and wife Kathleen of Macai, Brazil; 4 daughters, Dyann Barlett and husband Mike of Evergreen, CO, Carla Harless and husband Dan of Odessa, Karen Moore and husband David of Amarillo and Shelly Henry and husband Randy of Houston; 3 sisters, Claudine Wilson and Beth Saxon of Amarillo and Joyce Bloxom of Memphis, TX; 20 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
