Dolores Rivera Obituary

SEMINOLE, TEXAS - Funeral services for Dolores "Lola" Urquietta Rivera, age 90 of Seminole, Texas, will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at South Seminole Baptist Church with Pastor Hector Manjarrez and John Roybal officiating. Burial will follow at Gaines County Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rivera was born on June 15, 1932 in Terlingua, Texas to Mauricia (Martinez) and Juan Urquietta. She was a veteran of the United States Women's Army Corps, serving overseas in Japan in the late '50s, and lived her life as a proud patriot. Upon her return to the U.S., she met and married the love of her life, Benjamin Rivera, Sr., on April 26, 1961. Our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister in Christ lived with the most profound faith. She dedicated her life to spreading the word of the Bible, not only at Primera Iglesia Bautista but also through her missionary work in Mexico. She was a devoted Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and self-taught musician. For more than 50 years, her piano playing was the soul of her church's worship service.

Lola Rivera went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2022 at her home in Seminole, Texas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benjamin Rivera, Sr.; one sister, Andrea Villalva; and three brothers, Anastacio Sanchez, Vicente Urquietta and Jose Maria Gutierrez. She is survived by two sons, Benjamin Rivera, Jr. and wife Merlinda of Arlington, Texas, and Steven Rivera and Lyle Bockman of Phoenix, Arizona; three daughters, Maria Luisa Rivera-Lotito and husband Aldo of Odessa, Texas, Yvette Rivera of Phoenix, Arizona, and Yvonne Sperry and husband Jeff of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Stephanie Ross of Boston, Massachusetts, Alejandro Rivera and Paloma Rivera, both of Fort Worth, Texas, and Joshua Sperry of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Maria Molinar of Odessa, Texas, Catalina Bermudez of Alpine, Texas, and Hortencia Cordova of Alpine, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers for the service will include Alejandro Rivera, Jeff Sperry, Lyle Bockman, Jon Roman, Robert Cordova, and Michael Wiechmann, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Wiechmann, Sr., Jessie Garcia, and Aldo Lotito, Jr. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to William Pratt, NP, his nurse, Debbie Meredyth, and the staff at the V.A. Medical Clinic in Hobbs, New Mexico; Brenda Smith of Interim Home Health; Detra Johnson and Dawn Van Zandt of Interim Hospice Care; and Seminole Emergency Medical Services.
