Thelma Ruth Handley

SAN ANTONIO - Thelma Ruth (Harp) Handley, 82, formerly of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, August 12, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Cory Speer of Immanuel Baptist Church of Odessa, Texas, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Thelma was born in Phillips, Texas, to Jesse Bert (JB) Harp and Esther Oneda (Lay) Harp on October 3, 1939. She went to school in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1957. She married Charles Waylon Handley on August 6, 1965, in Odessa, Texas. She worked various administrative assistant jobs for many years, including several years at Immanuel Baptist Church, but primarily considered herself a homemaker. She enjoyed volunteering at her church, especially teaching Sunday School, bowling, golfing, playing card/board games, playing nickel slot machines, and rooting for her son's sports teams and the Dallas Cowboys.Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Handley, and her parents, JB and Oneda Harp. She is survived by her son, Charles R. Handley and wife Becca of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Donald Harp and wife Linda of Huntsville, Alabama; sister-in-law, Margie Handley of Odessa, Texas; grandchildren, Morgan M. Handley of Washington D.C., Madison F. Handley of San Diego, California, and Alex C. Handley of Denton, Texas; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Baptist Church of Odessa.
