Andrew H. Rommes

Andrew H. "Andy" Rommes, 85, of Bulger, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born March 4, 1940, a son of the late Robert and Alice Willhoyte Rommes. Andy was a 1958 graduate of the Union High School in Burgettstown, where he was a standout wrestler. Never afraid of hard work, he was the founder and owner of Andy Rommes Paving for decades, where he continued to work alongside his son and grandson well into his 80's. In addition, he worked for Russell Industries (later Lane Construction) in Pittsburgh for many years. Andy was an honest, simple man who enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends as well as negotiating the best deal at any flea market or yard sale. His beloved wife of 44 years, Winifred "Winnie" Daley Rommes, whom he married July 24, 1958, passed away November 7, 2002. Andy is survived by his daughter, Amy (Harold) Smith; and his son, John (Bev) Rommes, both of Bulger; his grandchildren, Chelsea (Dustin) Volle, Chloe (Shabarish) Jagarapu, Elizabeth Smith, Tyler Rommes and Luke Smith; and his great- grandchildren, Paisley, Colt and Collins Volle. Andy loved being "Pappy Butch" to all his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dennis (the late Candy) Daley; sister-in-law, Jean Rommes; his aunt, Joan Roman; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are his three children, "the triplets" Brian, Becky and Betsy; and his brother, Roy Rommes. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 28, in Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. of Burgettstown, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, with burial to follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald.
