Andrew Smercansky Obituary

Andrew "Andy" Paul Smercansky, 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, in Charlottesville, Va. Born January 25, 1937, he was the son of the late Ann and Andrew Smercansky. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dickie Smercansky. Andy was a remarkable individual whose life journey took him through different chapters, each marked by service, dedication, and love. He dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country in the Army and later in the CIA, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment and courage in protecting the values he held dear. Following his tenure in the armed forces and intelligence community, Andy embraced retirement in the serene embrace of Lake Anna. It was here, amidst the tranquil waters and the peaceful surroundings, that he found solace and the opportunity to indulge in the simple joys of life. Yet, among all his passions, nothing brought more joy than his family. His heart swelled with love and pride, particularly for his granddaughter, Alexandra. She was his beacon of light, his pride and joy, illuminating his life with her laughter and warmth. Their bond was a testament to the depth of love a grandfather could have for his granddaughter, and her presence brought unparalleled happiness to his days. Andrew is survived by his sisters, Terri Nolan and Betty Lehman; daughters, Christine Smercansky Peoples and Darlene Fredericks; granddaughter, Alexandra Haines; grandson, Corey Peoples; and one great-granddaughter on the way. A graveside service will be held at 1p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 2900 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to humanesociety.org. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
