Barbara Jean Lindstrom Gillespie, 83, of Houston, died Thursday, October 6, 2022, in her home.
She was born on March 19, 1939, a daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth Mamrack Lindstrom.
Barb was the valedictorian of the Chartiers-Houston class of 1957 and went onto Geneva College and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing in 1961. She worked as a nurse for the University Drive Veterans Affairs Hospital in Pittsburgh holding several positions. She spent her career caring and advocating for veterans until her retirement in 2001. Following her retirement, she worked part time as a clinical nurse with Dr. Anand Karamcheti until 2013.
Barb was an avid Steelers fan and season ticket holder, who rarely missed a game. She also loved live music, chocolate, and spending time with her friends and family.
Mrs. Gillespie was a dedicated and an active member of her community, donating her time and money to various organizations in the area.
She is survived by her son Brian Gillespie (Jillian) of Houston and her granddaughter, Hope Elizabeth Gillespie (fiance Nathan Kroboth) of Washington.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ray; and her son, Jeffery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chartiers-Houston Community Library, 30 West Grant Street, Houston, PA 15342 or the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, 3500 Victoria Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15261.
