Barbara Irwin

1933 - 2024

Barbara C. Irwin, 91, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Monday, August 26, 2024, in Peters Township Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, McMurray. She was born February 14, 1933, in Cape May, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Andrew and Julia McCubbins Church. After college Mrs. Irwin was a lab assistant in a nuclear physics lab before going on to teach high school mathematics in Western Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, New Jersey and South Carolina. Prior to her retirement, at age 80, Barbara had been in accounting with the Central Tax Bureau, in Bridgeville. She attended Waterdam Church and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and crocheting. She loved being with her family and her two Buff Cocker Spaniels, Lucky and Mooch. On August 27, 1955, she married Reverend James S. Irwin who passed away September 6, 2023, after 68 years of marriage. Left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted children: Charles I. "Skip" (Gealean) Irwin of Washington and Terry (Reverend Bruce) Poling of West Mifflin; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Irwin was the last of her immediate family. Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are her sister, Betsy Kurth; and her brothers, Ben and Robert Church. Friends and family are welcome from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29, in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner / supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. with pastor Jack Wilson officiating.
