Barbara Ann Jones Roupe, 81, of Washington died Friday, April 29, 2022, in her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born April 26, 1941, in Washington, a daughter of the late Wray and Mildred Liggett Jones.
Barbara was a 1959 graduate of Washington High School and a 1962 graduate of the Washington Hospital School of Nursing. She had been employed 37 years in the obstetrical department at Washington Hospital prior to her retirement in 2000.
She was an active member of Chartiers Crossroads Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and elder. She was a former member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church.
She enjoyed writing poetry, photography, reading, and cooking, especially for her family who she loved.
On February 17, 1962, she married James C. Roupe, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Lisa A. (Sonny) Kerr, Debbie L. (Bill Seiler) Lindsay, Amy M. (William) Spencer, all of Washington, and James P. (Jody) Roupe, of Sharpsburg, MD; 11 grandchildren, A.J. (Jackie) Kerr, Austin (Becca) Kerr, Jeremy (Ashley) Murray, Joshua (Ashley) Lindsay, Justin (Adrienne) Lindsay, Jacob Spencer, Maddie Spencer, Jonah Spencer, Grace Roupe, Rachel Roupe, and James Roupe; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Zrimm, of Avella, and Sandra Kandros, of Hendersonville, TN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Deceased is a brother, Robert Jones.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Ave., Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Interment will follow in Independence Cemetery. The Angels of Allegheny will perform a brief ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday, honoring Barbara's nursing career. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Ohio State Scholarship Foundation, C/O Michael Corea Scholarship Fund, PO box 710811, Columbus, OH, 43271.
