Corey N. McConn, 47, of Burgettstown, Cross Creek Township, passed away tragically Friday, July 5, 2024, due to a drowning accident while vacationing in Bradenton, Fla. He was born October 22, 1976, in the Washington Hospital, a son of the late Deborah Lee Rankin and Homer Newton McConn. A 1995 graduate of Avella High School, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in History and Political Science from Washington & Jefferson College in 1999. He worked in marketing, planning and business development for the Battista family at SunnySide Supply in Burgettstown, while also tending to his family's farm in Cross Creek. Always willing to better his community, Corey was a long-serving school board member and chair of the Avella Area School District. A statement released by them said: "Corey McConn's commitment to our district was unwavering. His leadership and dedication over the years have greatly contributed to the progress and success of our schools. He was passionate about education and deeply valued our community, always striving to make a positive impact." He was also very passionate and involved with the local American Cancer Society yearly Relay For Life, and enjoyed traveling to explore new destinations. Corey was the loving nephew of Jil Rankin (Joe Ramirez), and Rodney (Linda) Rankin; cousin and "brother" to Lisa (Donnie) Taggart, and Jason Rankin; cousin and "uncle" to Tyler, Abbie, Matthew Cerciello, Conner Taggart, Cody Rankin and Elyssa McCullough; and will also be missed by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins of the Rankin and McConn families. He was also a tremendous friend to Scott Miller, Brian Corwin and Martin Tussey. Family and friends will be received from 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 14, in Slater Funeral & Cremation Services of Burgettstown, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 15.
