Dale Campbell Obituary

Dale E. Campbell, 97, passed away December 28, 2020 in Grantsville, MD at Goodwill Retirement Community.

He was born September 24, 1923, in Wind Ridge, a son of the late William and Orpha Campbell. Dale's passing was preceded by his loving wife, Milena Chehovin Campbell, in 2001.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Clapper; and three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Deceased is a daughter, Joan Susan Van Kirk.

Dale was a WWII veteran and served in the US Navy aboard LST #121 and organized many shipmate reunions. He was proud of his military service and would talk about it for hours. He enjoyed coaching football and baseball, golfing, fishing and hunting.

He was actively involved with the Frazier-Simplex Rifle team and the Pony League Organization for years as a coach of the Redwings as well as starting the North Franklin Midget Football team, again, as their coach.

He was elected to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and was a season-ticket holder for the Wild Things Baseball.

Dale worked for Hazel Atlas and Brockway Glass as an electrician in the power house.

In retirement, he refinished furniture for his family.

He served his Lord at Faith United Presbyterian Church, Washington, where he was active in fellowship.

He was a man of strong character, a lover of his family, his church and sports and a wonderful baker of pies.

His bear hugs and broad smile will be missed.

All services will be private and have been entrusted to Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. Full military honors will be afforded at interment by the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, Washington. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Pony Baseball and Softball National Headquarters, 1951 Pony Place, Washington, PA 15301. Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor and Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director.

Dale was a good friend of my dad, Kendall Johnson, and a mentor to my brother, Keith. We will remember him for his kindness, good humor, and devotion to his wife throughout her illness. He volunteered his time to help others, and set a good example for others to follow.
