Helen Mayer

Helen Mayer, of Washington, formerly of Carmichaels and Nemacolin, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, in her 100th year. She was born May 15, 1925, in Crucible, a daughter of the late Nick and Mary Sumijna Maddich. Mrs. Mayer was a 1944 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and resided in Nemacolin before moving to Carmichaels in 1989. She was a member of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville, Ohio. Mrs. Mayer enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. On February 28, 1948, she married John S. Mayer, who died January 20, 2001. Surviving are two sons, John S. Mayer, Jr. (Leslie Dupke) of Pittsburgh, and Anthony A. Mayer (Brenda) of Washington; five grandchildren, Bridget Clement, Mark Mayer, Samantha Bennett (Frank), Jessica Ann Samogala (Michael), and Julia Ann O'Neal (Timothy); along with several great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Janet Maddich. Deceased are three brothers, Charles Madich, Steve Maddich and Nick Maddich; and four sisters, Mildred Demchak, Stella Vrcic, Bessie Brozovich and Ann Menhart. Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, and 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of a memorial service, Thursday, February 13, in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director/owner, Aaron S. Walker, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels. Father Rajko Kosic will officiate.
