James Edgar Rhone, 68, of Scenery Hill, known affectionately to many as, "Jim Jefferson", passed away peacefully Friday, December 11, 2020, in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 2, 1952, in Bradford, a son of the late Edgar James and Mary Margaret McGurn Rhone.
Mr. Rhone was a graduate of Bradford High School and in 1974 graduated from Point Park College with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism. He was employed for many years as the news director at WJPA and as a broadcaster for the Meadows Racing Network, where he was affectionately known as "Jim Jefferson".
Mr. Rhone was a true mentor to many young journalists. He was a member of the Lone Pine Country Club and was a member and council president of the Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Scenery Hill. Mr. Rhone served on many boards and supported numerous nonprofits over the years.
He loved to play golf, travel, have dinner with friends, take long walks with his dog, "Leo" and care for his horses and farm in Scenery Hill. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
On May 20, 1978, he married Debra L. Lantz, who survives. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Sandra Lantz of Aliquippa and Bridget (William) McGath of Darlington; and a nephew, Jacob Winterbauer of Enon Valley. Numerous cousins also survive.
Due to the most recent Pennsylvania COVID-19 restrictions on indoor gatherings, all funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. I was deeply saddened to hear about the untimely death of my cousin Jimmy. He & I enjoyed many good adventures in Bradford, PA. He was well loved by all the the Dunagan family. I wish to offer my sincere condolences to you and your family and hope one day to see him again in heaven.

Debbie, I heard this sad news on t.v. this morning. Jim was one of the nicest men I have ever known. I enjoyed working with him years ago at WJPA. I am sending caring thoughts and sympathy your way.
