James L. Sperlin

July 21,1948 - October 6, 2025 James L. "Jim" Sperlin, 77, passed away Monday, October 6, 2025, in Canonsburg. After a recent hospital stay, Jim died in the safety and comfort of his home in North Strabane Township. Born July 21, 1948, he was dedicated to service. Jim was a 1966 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, where his good nature, kindness, humor and his love for music developed. After serving our country in the Navy, Jim started a career in the Post Office (USPS) as a friendly mail carrier. His service earned him a full pension in his retirement. Jim embraced life with the same energy and warmth that had always defined him. He was often found enjoying a Jim Beam cocktail (or two) with friends, or playing his guitar.. these were two of his favorite pastimes that brought joy to himself and those around him. He is fondly remembered by his sense of humor that left many of us laughing so hard our sides hurt. Jim loved his time spent at two of his favorite hangouts: Jimmy G's and the Grand Slam. Whether he was catching up with friends or playing Keno, his presence lit up the bar. His humor, his guitar playing and his gift of storytelling made him unforgettable to those who knew him. A proud Navy veteran and retired public servant, Jim lived a life full of camaraderie, music and meaningful connections. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to echo through the stories he loved to tell. Jim will be buried with honors through the VA at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
