James Zelenka Obituary

James Zelenka, 74, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024, in the arms of his loving wife. He was born on November 7, 1949, in Washington, a son of the late Andrew and Edith Ferguson Zelenka. He resided in Washington, his whole life. Jim served his country in the Navy from 1967-1971. Following his military service, he was employed by the United States Postal Service at the Washington Post Office until his retirement in 2002. On October 28, 2019, he married Jessica Allison of Washington. They share three beautiful daughters together who he went on to nickname Baby, Popcorn, and Peanut as he was the king of nicknames for so many that he loved and adored. Jim spent much of his life hunting, fishing, playing golf, and loved a good game of pool. He organized numerous pool tournaments over the years and went on to take home gold in many of them. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering on tractors and lawnmowers and would help out anyone in need. Mailman was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 175, where he served both as a member and was elected to various board member positions over the years. He was loved and treasured by his Legion family and made countless friends there, who he cherished. His lifelong friend, Tumor, is sure to be waiting for him with a beer in hand, oldies on the jukebox, and some quarters for a round of pool. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 927, Washington Elks, and Arms Club. He is survived by his wife, Jessica Zelenka of Washington; his son, Franklin Zelenka of Florida; three daughters, Madilynn, Sophia and Abigail Zelenka of Washington; a brother, Andrew Zelenka of Washington; many brother and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, James Zelenka II, and his beloved dogs, Johnson and Muffin. Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of a blessing service with military honors, Saturday, July 27, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. In lieu of flowers, condolences can be made in support of furthering education for the Zelenka girls at Post Office Box 43, Washington, PA 15301.
