Janet Ely Obituary

Janet Andrews Ely, 95, of Washington, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
She was born April 16, 1921, in Amity, a daughter of the late Marie and Paul Andrews.
She was married to the late Robert Martin Ely, with whom she had two children: Rob (the late Stephanie) Ely of Dayton, Ohio, and Janice (Steven) Winsor of Jacksonville, Fla. She was the sister of Clea Andrews of Washington and the late Evelyn Breckenridge. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Travis (Jamie) Ely, Will Ely and Ashley Ceithaml.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, husband and sister, is her first husband, William Kennedy, who died serving in World War II.
Mrs. Ely was a longtime employee of Duke University in Durham, N.C., and Duke University Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, N.C. Known for her independence and resilience, she was most proud of her service as executive assistant to Duke University president Terry Sanford, a former North Carolina governor and U.S. Senator.
Prior to and during her professional career, Mrs. Ely, known as Jane by her family, was a skilled homemaker and devoted mother. She was a passionate fan of the Duke Blue Devils basketball team.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, in the chapel of Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, 835 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301. Lunch and fellowship will follow. Interment will be held privately. Arrangements are entrusted to Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian SeniorCare Resident Recreation Fund, in care of Presbyterian SeniorCare Foundation, 835 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301. For more information, call 412-826-6195, or send an e-mail to [email protected].

Your mom and my mom were good friends. My mom was Margy Wheat, who passed away May 31st..Over the years with age and some health issues they did not keep in touch as much. I am sorry for your loss, maybe all these old friends are getting together again.
