Janet Houston Obituary

Janet Pearl Aloia Houston, 68, of Washington, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 8, 1955, in Washington, a daughter of the late Dominic and Edna Mae Chambers Aloia. She was a 1973 graduate of Trinity High School. Janet worked as a credit analyst with Komatsu, formerly Joy Global, for more than 25 years before her retirement in 2022. Janet was a very active member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church for over 55 years. During her time there she served the church in several capacities including deacon. In her free time, she enjoyed camping, ice skating, and baking with her twin granddaughters. She was widely known for her homemade chocolate cake. Her favorite passions, however, were attending her children and grandchildren's sporting events, walks at the park with her husband and granddog (Roony), and spending time with her family. On August 4, 1979, in her church, she married the love of her life, Terry Lee Houston, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Zachary (Laura) Houston of Washington; a daughter, Megan (Sean) Houston Roach of Hope Mills, N.C.; a brother, Terry Aloia of Washington; two sisters, Jeannie (Terry) Allison, and Bette Jo (Jerry) Puskarich, both of Washington; three grandchildren, Cori and Anna Houston, and Baby Roach (arriving in October); and several nieces, nephews, great- nieces, and great- nephews. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a mother-in-law, Evelyn Jean Houston; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Edward Houston. Friends will be received from 12 to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, and from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 10, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, in the Fairhhill Manor Christian Church, 351 Montgomery Avenue, Washington. Interment will follow in Amity Presbyterian Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Magee Women's Research Institute, 204 Craft Avenue, Pittsburgh; or Fairhill Manor Christian Church, 351 Montgomery Avenue, Washington. Dear Terry, Zach, Megan and extended family, Our hearts break for all of you. One of my fondest memories was when me and Janet shared the same hospital room when our girls were born.
