Joseph Vilchek Obituary
Born September 2, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, he was a son of Joseph Vilchek of Collinsburg and the late Leona Smith Vilchek.
He was employed as a coal miner and plant operator at the former Mathies/Mon View Mine for 29 years, until its closing.
A proud member of United Mine Workers, he was also a member of both the German and Slovak clubs in Collinsburg.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Penny L. Ellis Vilchek; sons Joseph A. Vilchek and wife Vicki of Adah, David T. Vilchek and wife Michelle of West Newton, Michael A. Vilchek and wife Chrissy of Matthews, N.C., and Rob Ellis and wife Dana of Midland; 13 grandchildren, Joseph, Donald, Brianna, Gabriella, David, Alexander, Natalie and Kristen Vilchek, Rachel Clem Law and Madison Clem, Nicholas, Vivian and Emelia Ellis; three great-grandchildren, Weston and Scarlett Vilchek and Peyton Law; a sister, Susan Vilchek Woolen and husband Jeff of North Carolina; and "Uncle" Les Bergman of Collinsburg.
At the family's request, there will be no public viewing and a private family service will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joe's memory to American Heart Association at AHA, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693 or American Diabetes Association by phone, 1-800-DIABETES, or by mail at ADA, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Arrangements were entrusted to Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, PA 15063 724-258-6767.
