Justin Louis Sharratt, 37, of Fredericktown, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, in his home.
Justin was born August 14, 1984, in Washington, to Darryl R. and Theresa McClosky Sharratt of Zebulon, N.C.
He was a 2003 graduate of Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind., and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Justin entered boot camp November 10, 2003, and was deployed to Fallujah, where he served from 2004 to 2005. He then went on to serve in Haditha from September 2005 to April 2006. For his service, he was awarded the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Certificate of Appreciation, and Rifle Marksman Badge. He was honorably discharged in 2007.
Justin went onto work as an underground coal miner at the CONSOL Energy Enlow Fork Mine in the Bailey Mining Complex, as a corrections officer in the Washington County Jail, and most recently as an electrical technician with U.S. Steel at Clairton Mill Works. He enjoyed the camaraderie he shared with his colleagues, many of whom he considered close friends.
Justin was a member of Humble Hooning, a Pittsburgh-based car enthusiast group. He enjoyed wrenching with his friends, attending car shows, playing old-school Nintendo games, challenging his nephews to games of hide-and-seek using heat sensing night vision goggles (that he always won), Nerf battles, working on his Jeep and 1969 GTO, and listening to music. Most of all, he loved creating experiences for others to bring them joy.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his sister, Jaclyn (Matthew Smith) of Wake Forest, N.C.; and his four nephews, Beckett Louis (9), Elliott Noah (7), Crosby Leo (6) and Ezra Jameson (4), whom he loved dearly.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Louis and Ann McClosky, and Ray and Elizabeth Sharratt; and his fallen brothers-in-arms, and especially those from the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 11 in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. Interment services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, August 12, at the Beallsville Cemetery, 32 Chestnut Street, Beallsville, with the Rev. Edward Yuhas officiating. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by the U.S. Marine Corps.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to PA Vet Pets, a local organization dedicated to connecting military veterans with rescued animals.
The guest book, where personal condolences may be shared, is available at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com.
